Up North? No thanks

What the H is up with the phrase "Up North"? I can't tell you how many times I've heard this phrase in the past few months. When I first heard it I thought to myself, "Up North? That could be anywhere!" So I asked for some clarification. And apparently it means our "home" or "Kaysville/Farmington/Fruit Heights/Centerville/you get the drift. Now, these people who use the phrase frequently (maybe too frequently, if you ask me) are those who live "Down South". As in Provo/Cedar City/St. George/other weird named Southern parts of Utah.

So basically, I think I've cracked this riddle. The only problem is, after figuring it out, I think I hate this phrase even more. "Up North" is so vague. It could mean so many things. Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, or maybe even, I dunno... OH Canada! Wouldn't it be just as easy to say, "We're heading up to Farmington this weekend." Or "We're heading home to Kaysville this weekend." Who decided it was any easier to say, "We're heading up north this weekend." And then the other person is forced to say, "Oh, where up north?" And then you just end up telling them Kaysville or whatever. It's so stupid. In fact, it just prolongs a conversation with meaningless small-talk.

Now I realize, I may be targeting a few of our blog followers. Because they do, in fact, use this phrase. Well, my friends, I intend to do no harm. I just simply want to point out the fact that this phrase is stupid... and I hate it. K, love ya, see ya, bye.

Tenderly,

Kate

P.S. If you say, "Up Narth" then maybe we could talk.
